Louis Joseph Profera
1937 - 2011
Louis J. Profera of Shinnecock Hills, Hampton Bays, formerly of North Merrick, died on November 13 of heart failure. He was 74.
Born in Brooklyn, on June 16, 1937, he attended St. John’s University with a degree in accounting and Brooklyn Law School with a Jurist Doctorate. He practiced law for 46 years. His career ranged from tax corporate law to general practice. He was deputy counsel to the grievance committee of the Second Department state Appellate Division. For the last 20 years his practice was focused in the Family Court; including law guardian advocate for hundreds of abused and abandoned children in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
His personal passion was gardening. He said his love for gardening brought him closer to God; the beauty that God created in nature was close to his heart.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years Catherine (nee Pizzuto); daughter Dr. Lisa Profera-Bielby of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and her husband Michael Bielby; son Dr. Louis S. Profera of Southampton and his wife Lisa; and by grandchildren Michaela and Angelina Bielby, and Sarah and Luke Profera.
