Entertaining for the holidays

By Linda Toscano   Fri, Nov 18, 2011

Local band Toxin can be seen on our website promoting its holiday show at the Bellmore Showplace on December 2 to support Toys for Tots. Your community newspaper is just one of the sponsors helping make this happen, and we urge all our readers to “get into the holiday spirit” and help make this event a success.

Young men in black leather jackets may not seem like your typical Santa’s elves, and that reminds us that we can all be like them, giving back to the community and to those in need. There are no girth requirements to be a Santa Claus. All that is needed is a giving heart.

This week’s special Holiday issue focuses on entertaining for the holidays. Most of us, musically talented or not, will be doing that. That is, we will be inviting family and friends into our homes for Thanksgiving and the holidays that follow.

Please don’t assume that everyone you know has a similar role, though. You may have friends who will be alone for Thanksgiving. It would not hurt to ask if they would like to join you at the table. In fact, you will likely be richly rewarded. Often, when you do invite new friends, they help bring a special sparkle to the gathering. And when you give thanks at the table, you will likely be giving a heartfelt thanks for the blessing of their presence too.

We, also, are thankful for all of our readers and advertisers, both new and longtime subscribers and supporters. And please keep sharing your news through us, in print and online.
