Attempted murder in Baldwin

First Squad detectives report the details of an arrest for Attempted Murder which occurred on Wednesday, December 28, at 1:13 p.m. in Baldwin.
According to detectives, officers on patrol in Baldwin observed Andrew Savary, 23, of Grand Avenue, Baldwin, approach a car which had pulled to the curb on Lenox Road west of Grand Avenue, driven by Lavarr A. Cannon, 27, of Kingston Avenue, Baldwin.
Officers watched Mr. Savary buy marihuana from Mr. Cannon and they placed him under arrest without incident. Mr. Cannon, seeing officers approaching his vehicle, put the car in reverse to leave the scene. Ignoring officers’ commands to stop, Mr. Cannon accelerated forward, striking one of the officers. He continued eastbound on Lenox Road, striking parked cars. Mr. Cannon left the scene of these accidents and abandoned his car on Taylor Avenue, fleeing on foot.
After a foot pursuit, officers were able to place Mr. Cannon under arrest. One officer injured his leg in the course of the arrest. The officer who was struck by the vehicle suffered leg and back injuries.
Both officers were taken to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Mr. Savary is charged with Criminal Possession of Marihuana and was issued an appearance ticket with a return date of Monday, January 23.
Mr. Cannon is charged with Attempted Murder, four counts of Assault, three counts of Criminal Possession of Marihuana, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer, Reckless Endangerment, three counts of Leaving the Scene of an accident and several violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
