Long Island Council of Churches leader comes to Bellmore

The Rev. Thomas W. Goodhue, executive director of the Long Island Council of Churches, will preach at the Bellmore Presbyterian Church on the corner of Bellmore and Martin Avenues on Sunday, January 15, to celebrate the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday.    

He will be preaching on Deut. 26: 1-11, a sermon, entitled “A Wandering Puritan Was My Father.” He will discuss the divisive issue of immigration that our country has been arguing about. He notes that the vast majority of Americans we were at one time immigrants.

The Rev. Goodhue has pastored churches in Nassau, Suffolk and Hawaii, and led youth ministry on Long Island and in California. He taught young children at the Riverside Church in Manhattan and has written several collections of stories for children. “Sharing the Good News with Children” (St. Anthony Messenger Press) won a Catholic Book Award.

His biography “Curious Bones: Mary Anning and the Birth of Paleontology” (published by Morgan Reynolds) was named “One of the Best Books for the Teenage Years” by the New York Public Library. His adult biography, “Fossil Hunter: The Life & Times of Mary Anning,” was published by Academica Press.

All are welcome to hear him at the 9 and 10:30 a.m.Sunday morning services on the Sunday, January 15.
