Meet Merrick Life's first baby of 2012.

Merrick Life congratulates Matteo Philip Hamerman of North Merrick – he’s our first baby of 2012 contest winner!
Matteo, born on January 2, weighing 8 pounds, 5 ounces and being 20 inches long. He arrived at 6:20 p.m. at North Shore-LIJ Hospital to first-time mom and dad, Michele and Matthew Hamerman.
Asked the origin of the baby’s name, Michele recalled that when they got married in July in Mexico everyone was calling Matt, “Mateo.” They fell in love with the name and decided it would be a good name for the baby, choosing to spell it the Italian way with two t’s.
He’s a good baby, Mom says, “though I don’t get any sleep.” He looks like his dad, she says, though as the days go on she’s beginning to see herself in his looks.
He’s a happy baby and you can tell his personality is developing as a content little boy. Mom and Dad are becoming quick to pick up his cues – such as when he is wet, tired or hungry – and are seeing his goo’s and ga’s develop into more meaningful babble, and his eye contact become more discerning.
Michele, originally from Brooklyn, has her parents nearby in Plainview and they have been a frequent help to the new mom. Matt, originally from East Meadow, bought his home in North Merrick about three years ago. He is in business as a closed circuit TV installer and servicer. His company, Streamline Security Solutions of North Merrick, sells and installs residential and commercial surveillance systems. He has a website at streamlinecctv.com.
After Michele gave birth to Matteo, her grandmother commented that Merrick Life has always had a first baby of the year contest – and 41 years ago her son, James, almost won. This would mean that James Trotta, the Merrick’s almost-first baby of 1971, is now the great-uncle of the first baby of 2012!
