First 'New Years' baby for big family.

Welcome to the world, Anna Kate Whidden!

Anna Kate Whidden of Seaford is The Citizen’s 2012 First Baby of the Year. Her parents, Jack and Katy Whidden, were surprised when baby Anna arrived on January 1. You see Anna’s arrival was both early and late.

“My wife wasn’t due until January 9,” explained husband Jack, “and then at about 7 in the morning on New Year’s Eve, Katy went into labor. We went to the hospital around 1 p.m. and thought she’d be born sometime that day.”

But Anna already let her parents know she has a mind of her own and was late. “We were surprised it took so long...all day and all night. But then again this is our first baby, so you just don’t know what to expect,” said Dad.

Anna was born at 10:20 a.m. on New Year’s Day.  “It was an interesting way to spend New Year’s,” Jack added.

Anna is doing well. She’s a happy baby that is eating well and sleeping. “She recognizes our voices and opens her eyes when she hears us,” said Dad. “She looks around with those blue eyes of hers,” he gushed.

While Anna may be Jack and Katy’s first baby, she has many cousins to play with. Between Mom and Dad there are 18 other children in the family – two on Mom’s side and 16 on Dad’s side.

“I was one of eight kids, so I have some experience with children,” said Jack, whose parents still live in Seaford. Nine other grandchildren also live in Seaford.  While it might seem old hat after so many children and grandchildren, little Anna is the first “New Year’s baby” in the Whidden clan.

Mom and baby are fine, said Jack. “The whole experience is a little surreal, but we are so happy. It’s all very exciting.”

Congratulations to the Whidden family and a very happy birthday to Anna.

A assortment of gifts awaits the Whidden family. They are one free pizza from Umberto’s; a leather wallet from Andy’s Luggage & Leather Goods; a flower arrangement for Mom from Numa’s Florist; a haircut and makeup for Mom from Majestic Salon & Spa; a complimentary dental whitening for two from Park Avenue Dental; a $25 gift certificate from Animal Appetites Ltd; one free week for Mom and guest from World Gym; A $50 deposit into baby’s 4% youth savings account from Bethpage Federal Credit Union; A gift basket for Mom from Iavarone Bros.; Brunch for two from Hemingway’s; a $25 dry cleaning certificate from Concord Cleaners; a $25 gift certificate for mom from A Charmed Life; a very special gift for mom and baby from iKon Boutique; a free oil change with filter and tire rotation from Rudy’s A-1 Auto Body; a pair of free movie tickets from Seaford Cinemas; a free massage for Mom or Dad from Eugene Wood, Licensed Massage Therapist; a $25 gift certificate from Piccolo Pizzeria and a one-year subscription to The Citizen.
