Cyberbully webcast
Get involved watch the webcast live.
State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. of Merrick will host a webcast on Tuesday, February 7, from 7-7:30 pm. Both parents and students are invited to watch the webcast, which will be streamed live over the Internet on his website, www.fuschillo.nysenate.gov.
The senator writes, “The webcast will feature an informational discussion about cyberbullying and the impact it has on children. Students will learn about steps they can take if they are being bullied, as well as the importance of looking out for each other and not being a bystander when cyberbullying occurs.”
“In addition, parents will learn about the warning signs to spot if their child is being bullied. The webcast will also provide informational resources about where students affected by cyber-bullying can turn for help,” the senator continued.
Joining the webcast will be John Halligan, whose 13-year-old son Ryan committed suicide in 2003 after continually being bullied, ridiculed and humiliated by his classmates in school and over the Internet. Since his son’s death, Mr. Halligan has traveled across the country to tell other students about Ryan’s story, to help them understand the devastating impact that bullying and cyberbullying has on its victims.
There will also be two Seaford High School students who will talk about the challenges students face with cyberbullying today.
