At approximately 1:47 a.m. last Thursday, December 1, the Bellmore Fire Department was alerted to a fire on Wynne Lane after homeowners were awakened by a popping noise and realized their home was filling with smoke.
Chief of Department Robert Taylor was first on the scene. Upon entering at the home he discovered a fire in the basement. He transmitted a “signal 10,” notifying all responding firefighters of a working house fire. Soon after, Chief Taylor was joined by Second Assistant Chief Christopher O’Brien and Bellmore Engine 603.
Assistant Chief O’Brien led the interior attack by firefighters from Bellmore Engines 603 and 602. Chief Taylor set up the command post on the street. An aggressive attack quickly extinguished the fire, preventing further damage to the home.
Other Bellmore units at the scene were Ladder 606, Ambulance 6012 and Engine 601. Mutual Aid was provided by North Bellmore, Merrick, North Merrick and Wantagh Fire Departments.
There were no reported injuries and the fire is under routine investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office.
The Bellmore Fire Department urges homeowners to make sure all their smoke detectors are in working order.
