A Taste of Home celebrates the joy of giving

Fri, Dec 16, 2011

Bakery gives back to local charities.

A new program from A Taste of Home Bakery in North Bellmore will contribute desperately needed dollars to local nonprofit organizations during the holiday season with every purchase of a holiday gift box, tin or basket.

The bakery also announced its schedule of holiday season events, programs and gift ideas, including several Breakfasts with Santa, plus gingerbread and chocolate house decorating classes.

Through the new The Joy of Giving program, A Taste of Home will donate 5% of all holiday purchases to one of several designated organizations.
Purchasers will be able to choose which charity they want to support with each gift. When the holiday season is over, A Taste of Home will contribute the total amount earmarked to each charity.

“We’re making it easy for our customers to give tasty and beautifully packaged gifts this holiday season,” says Monica Tarantino, co-owner of A Taste of Home. “For close family, special friends or valued business clients, we offer a wide variety of delicious holiday gift packages.

Whether a basket, box or tin, our freshly baked items are available in all sizes and for all budgets. By purchasing gifts made locally, you are helping keep money on Long Island and keeping Long Islanders employed.”

Charities included in the program include: Alzheimer’s Association of Long Island  (www.alz.org/longisland), Alex Rubinger Kosher Food Pantry at Temple Beth-El (www.beth-el-massapequa.org) Birthday Wishes (www.birthdaywishes.org), Crohn’s Disease and Colitis Foundation of America  (www.active.com/donate/LI11TCVEGAS/vegas11longislandIBr),  Forever 9-The Robbie Levine Foundation (www.robbielevinefoundation.org), Island Harvest  (www.islandharvest.org) and Long Island Crisis Center  (www.longislandcrisiscenter.org/).

All gifts can be purchased either online at www.atasteofhomebakery.com or at the bakery, 1992 North Jerusalem Road, North Bellmore.

“Programs like The Joy of Giving are what make us different,” says Rose Fuger, co-owner. “We’re proud to support the local area by creating distinct programs and events. We also love creating activities that bring us closer to our clients, their families and friends,” she says.

Holiday programs/specialties include Breakfast with Santa, which will take place twice a day on six days during December (the 17th and 18th, with 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. seatings). Participants will enjoy a delicious breakfast and a leisurely chat with Santa, with plenty of time for family pictures without the hassle of the mall.

Gingerbread and Chocolate House Making has become an annual event at A Taste of Home.  This year the sessions will take place on Thursday, December 15 and Saturday, December 17, at 4 and 6:30 p.m).

From cupcakes to specially designed Chanukah cookies and cakes, baker Rose Fuger will create a delicious and beautiful dessert for the holiday of lights. Fruit platters, chocolate platters and nut trays are also available to use as hostess gifts or to bring home to enjoy with the family.
