North Merrick School to hold vote
Bond vote is December 12.
A special election of the North Merrick School district will take place at the Harold Fayette School on Monday, December 12. The purpose of the vote is to expend $1.2 million for capital improvements to Camp Avenue, Fayette and Old Mill Road Schools. The money for these improvements comes from existing funds, including surplus money found in the general fund and reserve funds. There will be no increase to the tax levy to make these improvements.
Specifically, the improvements include concrete and asphalt repairs at Camp Avenue and Old Mill Road Schools in the amount of $552,000, as well as the removal and replacement of asbestos flooring at these schools in the amount of $232,000. Additionally, the district is required to make renovations in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) at Fayette and Old Mill Road School, for $339,000. Finally, $20,000 will be spent for the renovation of gymnasium equipment at Fayette. The remaining $57,000 is for contingencies and adjustment of estimates.
Voting takes place between 2-10 p.m. at Fayette School. If you need to register to vote, you may do so until December 7.
