Leadership opportunities for Seaford students

Sat, Dec 03, 2011

HOBY honors leadership qualities.

Twelve 10th-grade students from Seaford High School were nominated by the faculty to participate in the annual Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership seminar (HOBY), which has conducted annual, all-expense-paid seminars since 1958.

HOBY’s purpose is to bring together a select group of high school sophomores who have demonstrated leadership ability so they can interact with groups of distinguished leaders in business, government, education and other professions to discuss present and future issues.

The following 10th-graders were nominated: Anthony Amarante, Emily Burdick, Katie Butler, Ashley Chermak, Nicole Cupo, James Curley, Desire Fowlkes, Michael Fox, Dijanni Hodges, Mackenzie Meyer, Matthew Natland and Deanna Schneider.

Students were nominated by the faculty, submitted essays and were interviewed by the HOBY Leadership Committee. This committee was made up of guidance counselors, administrators, teachers and former HOBY winners.

The Committee selected James Curley to represent Seaford High School at this year’s HOBY Convention and Dijanni Hodges as the Alternate Ambassador. Congratulations James and Dijanni!
