Late Autumn beauty at Levy Preserve

Autumn’s stark beauty is captured best at Merrick’s Levy Park and Preserve.

While by mid-November some areas still smolder in shades of orange and gold, other spots have taken on a more austere splendor anticipating winter’s arrival.

The park was opened to the public on October 22, 2000 and is dedicated to the memory of the late New York State Senator Norman J. Levy, a Merrick resident and a champion for the environment. The preserve has no admission fee and is open all year. Hours for the park are 7am to dusk September to May and 7 a.m. to 7:30 pm during the summer months.

The park is easily accessible from the Meadowbrook Parkway. Use the Merrick Road M9 east exit. Enter the Department of Sanitation entrance on the right. Follow the signs to Levy Park and Preserve parking lot. There are jitneys to transport the physically challenged, elderly and other visitors, upon request, around the facility. The jitneys will travel the 52-acre preserve from the parking lot to the plateau.

Please call (516) 804-2000 to arrange for a group tour or to obtain further information about Norman J. Levy Park & Preserve.
