Mayor: Drive carefully, school’s open

A recap of the week's Village Board meeting.

Freeport trustees approved several items on a brief regular agenda meeting, including the following: 

  • Accepted the 2009 tree removal contract with Looks Great Service of Huntington for $64,028 with a $3,200 retainer.
  • Authorized a $7,380 grant for the police department with Nassau County for participation in the “Buckle Up New York” grant program.
  • Approved budget transfers between accounts totaling $132,419.
  • Approved a permit application retroactively for the TV series “Royal Pains” from September 7-9.
  • Approved the Fire Department’s request to host the 22nd annual Fire Expo on October 24.
  • Approved public assembly permits for Refuge Church of Christ for September 25, and the Ebenezer Seventh Day Adventist Church for September 18.
  • Approved the hanging of a banner publicizing the annual Mini Golf Tournament on October 3.  

 

 

 

 

 

At the meeting’s end, Mayor Andrew Hardwick appealed to the public to drive carefully with school now in session, noting there have been three major accidents recently on South Main Street.
