Crime Report
Police reports come from law enforcement agencies. Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until convicted in court.
Merrick
- A pickup truck struck a pedestrian in North Merrick on Tuesday, September 14, at 3:13 p.m. According to detectives, a 2008 Ford pickup was traveling southbound in the left lane on Merrick Avenue when it struck a male victim, 75, who was crossing eastbound on Merrick Avenue in the vicinity of Pat’s Farms. A North Merrick Fire Department ambulance transported the victim, who suffered broken bones of the arms and legs as well as an inter-cranial bleed, to a local hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. Detectives report no apparent criminality with the accident. The vehicle was impounded from the scene for brake and safety inspections.
- A Babylon Turnpike, Merrick, residence was reported broken into on August 29. A rear kitchen window screen was cut; no loss was reported.
- A residence on Hemlock Street, Merrick, was reported burglarized on September 6. Entry was gained through an unlocked basement window, and jewelry, coins, a computer and stereo equipment were reported stolen.
- A Yale Road, Merrick, resident reports the theft of sunglasses, laptop, GPS, iPod, CD player and CDs, and assorted sports card collectibles and stickers from his unlocked 2010 Mazda on August 28.
- A Lindenmere Drive, Merrick, resident reports an unknown vandal broke the rear window of his 1999 Chevy van on September 3.
- A house on Camp Avenue was reported burglarized on September 8. The victim, who reports jewelry missing, suspects a cleaning lady, who was there on September 1 and again on September 8.
- A house on Babylon Turnpike was reported on September 9. Two bicycles were removed from the garage.
- Air conditioning units were reported removed from a residence on Redmond Road on August 31.
- Numerous eggs were tossed at a residence on Old Mill Road on August 30, causing damage to the front siding.©
- A GPS device was reported stolen from a console of an unlocked 2005 Honda Pilot on Gormley Street on August 31.
- A 2007 Jeep was left in disarray and property removed on Michael William Road on September 1.
- Someone entered and stole TomTom GPS device from a 2003 Dodge Durango on Tyrus Court on September 1.
