Say Goodbye to an Era.

Last of the Water Tower Falls

The last building at the Brooklyn Water Works on Brookside Avenue in Freeport came tumbling down on Tuesday, October 5, thanks to a crane. The property, designated as a landmark site in 1986, is being cleared to make way for a future development which will have to be approved by the village’s Landmarks Preservation Commission. The Brooklyn Water Works, originally named the Milburn Pumping Station, was built in 1891 and remained operational as an intermittent water source through 1977. Gary Mileus purchased the property in 1989 to build condominiums.
