Vote Tuesday
The nonpartisan Nassau County League of Women Voters Guide is being reprinted in this week's issue as a public service by the businesses listed below. The League, which turned 90 recently, was started after women earned the right to vote. They did not take it for granted and they wanted to cast educated votes, votes based on knowing the issues and not just on the authority of someone else.
League members continue to volunteer as moderators in local debates. They take on important issues and research them, publishing papers and holding forums. They print and post online those information guides on how to register to vote, how to vote absentee, etc. They have been teaching people how to vote using the new (to our area) paper ballots. It is hard to think of a local volunteer group that does more important work. Because voting is what brings important social change.
They deserve a round of applause. And, hey, why not consider joining them?
