Black suitcase contains only clothes

Bomb scare a dud

by Peter Paguaga

A black suitcase placed next to a gas pump at the Mobil gas station on the corner of Newbridge Road and Columbus Avenue in North Bellmore aroused the suspicion of Mobil employee Ismail Kisla around 12:45 p.m. Friday afternoon, who then brought it to the office to open it up.

But employer Newman Ozlem insisted he put it to the side and then called the police.

After cornering off Newbridge Road traffic, a NassaPolice Bomb Squad workapproached the black suitcase at approximatley 1:15 p.m., X-rayed it and determined it was not a bomb. Instead, the suitcase contained clothes.

Said Mr. Ozlem, “At first we thought it was a mistake, that someone had left the suitcase there and they would come back for it.”

He then decided the police would provide the best solution. Traffic was back to normal around 2:15 p.m.
