Deputy mayor steps aside but remains on the board as trustee.

In a press conference held on Friday evening at Mia’s Restaurant, village Trustee Carmen Pineyro announced her resignation from the office of deputy mayor of Freeport effective May 11, although she would continue to serve as village trustee.

Trustee Pineyro declared that “She loves Freeport” and that she was proud of certain accomplishments regarding spending and the village’s bond rating, but that differences had arisen in terms of her vision for Freeport. “Things I want to see happen have not come to fruition.”

Under repeated questioning, Ms. Pineyro declined to specify the differences which prompted this decision – “I won’t air dirty laundry.”  But she still declared that she had “a passion for this,” and would continue “to serve the people of Freeport with dignity and honesty.”

It was unknown at the time of the press conference who would become deputy mayor and when an appointment would be forthcoming.
