Baldwin library budget vote
The Baldwin Public Library has a long history of support from the community. Residents may vote on Tuesday, May 17, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Baldwin High School.
The proposed expenditure budget for the 2011-2012 year is for $3,855,875 of which $3,576,975 must be raised through taxes. This represents an increase of 3.97% over last year’s expenditure budget and a tax levy increase of $164,250 or 4.81%. This increase is attributable to retirement benefits and health insurance, whose rates rose by 40% and more than 13% respectively. This increase follows two consecutive years of zero increases and last year’s increase of less than 1%.
If passed, this budget will allow the library to continue to serve the community as before, while remaining fiscally responsible.
“The Library is a center of education and lifelong learning, that provides cultural and recreational programs for all ages including career counseling, job fairs, festivals, museum passes, concerts, crafts, book clubs and homework centers for both children and teens,” reads the trustee message on the library budget. “Residents can borrow books, DVDs, audiobooks, magazines, music CDs, vide games and even download e-Books and audiobooks to their computers or e-Readers.”
Trustee Carl Williams is running unopposed for library trustee.
