Asbestos Removal

By Doug Finlay   Thu, Mar 24, 2011

Update on the CHSD asbestos situation.

The Central High School District – in response to Bellmore Life’s question of whether asbestos-contaminated tables and chairs in the Grand Avenue Middle School sand cellar had been removed or decontaminated – stated that asbestos removal is concealed to a sealed area in the basement, where remedial work is being performed (See Bellmore Life, March 16, page 1).

The district said the contaminated tables and chairs are not used for students during testing. Enviro-Science Consultants tested air quality around the school, and found no evidence of asbestos contamination, the district added.

Meanwhile, the state Department of Labor told Bellmore Life it will visit Kennedy High School sometime this week regarding a related matter, but would not elaborate.
