Landmarks commission meeting
Public hearing regarding development of the former Brooklyn Water Works site.
The Freeport Landmarks Preservation Commission is scheduled to hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 22 at Village Hall. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m.
On the agenda is a public hearing regarding a proposed development at the former Brooklyn Water Works site on Brookside Avenue, north of Sunrise Highway. The board will review the proposal to build 125 rental units in a six story building. The project would provide parking for 228 cars. This meeting has had a change of venue from the Freeport Memorial Library to Village Hall.
However, Nancy Melius, speaking on behalf of the developer Gary Melius, told The Leader there would be an adjournment. Ms. Melius did not know when the hearing would take place or why the adjournment was taking place.
Members of the Landmarks Preservation Commission and Pam Boening, village clerk, had no knowledge of this adjournment. Petrina Reda, chairperson of the Landmarks Preservation Commission said, “We cannot adjourn, as we must act within 60 days of receiving this application.”
The Leader will make updates, if necessary, on this hearing on its website. Look for updates at www.freeportbaldwinleader.com
