Aqua hearing adjourned, public meeting July 12
Tuesday, July 12 is the next water tower meeting.
The Town of Hempstead’s zoning Board of Appeals has rescheduled Aqua New York’s two applications for one hearing date on Wednesday, August 10, at 2 p.m. at Town Hall in Hempstead.
Meanwhile Aqua New York will host an informational meeting with the public on July 12 to discuss its applications before the board.
Originally Aqua New York, the private water provider in Seaford and Wantagh, had two applications before the zoning board on two separate hearing dates.
The first hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, June 29. This application was a request to construct two small buildings to house a new well and provide water treatment and purification equipment on its property located on DeMott Avenue in Wantagh.
“The new well was installed to replace one no longer used and the buildings are necessary to bring the well into service,” reads a press release issued from Aqua New York.
The second application, originally scheduled for July 27, is for a proposed 158-foot elevated water tank on the DeMott Avenue property in Wantagh.
Aqua New York’s press release states that the new tank “would greatly improve water pressure across its entire system – including that used for fighting fires – and increase the overall service reliability.”
But many residents believe “the company could easily erect a pump rather than an unsightly tower that will undoubtedly affect the aesthetics of the community and decrease home values,” said Jeanine Boiko, a spokesperson for the Wantagh Civic Association. “Further, fears that the tower will house future cell installations remain high given the community’s recent opposition to the proposed cell tower on the Farmingdale-Wantagh Jewish Centre.”
Meanwhile Aqua New York is planning on hosting an informational meeting with the public to discuss its planned improvements at its DeMott Avenue facility in Wantagh.
That meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 12, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Wantagh High School, 3297 Beltagh Avenue.
The Wantagh Civic Association and the Wantagh-Seaford Homeowners Association are urging residents to attend the July 12 meeting to voice their concerns and opposition to the erection of the proposed water tower, as well as the zoning board hearing on Wednesday, August 10.
