A summer bucket list
This week, we launch our “Summer Fun” series, celebrating one of the best things about living here, our waterfront and beaches. And as summer stretches ahead it seems like we will have all the time in the world to do what we have been dreaming of all winter. But if this summer is like last summer, it will end with us wondering how it went so fast and regretting not getting around to this or that because we thought there was plenty of time left.
So here is one bucket list. Perhaps it will inspire yours.
1. Take a kayak tour of the Meadow Brook at the Levy Park and Preserve on the Freeport-Merrick border.
2. Walk Jones Beach.
3. Have dinner or lunch outside on the Nautical Mile in Freeport.
4. Take a party fishing boat.
5. Go fruit and berry picking, and make a Scandinavian cold fruit soup.
6. Take in an outdoor concert at one of the local parks or beaches.
7. Learn how to barbecue vegetables and corn.
8. Go to an outdoor ethnic festival.
9. Walk around downtown and just see what’s there.
10. Have breakfast at Belmont.
11. Check out the local museum and library exhibits.
12. Choose a listing from southshoresounds. blogspot.com and go.
13. See one of the independent movies at the international film festival in Bellmore. (Oops, it ends tonight! Better hurry!)
14. Check out the Friday night car show at the Bellmore train station.
Remember, if you don’t pencil in at least one a week, it might not happen!
