Aqua proposes new water tower in Wantagh
The northwest corner of DeMott Ave is the location for the proposed tower.
Aqua New York, the company which provides water to the residents of Wantagh and Seaford, is proposing to build a new water tower on DeMott Avenue in Wantagh.
The Town of Hempstead’s Zoning Board of Appeals will hear Aqua’s application on Wednesday, July 27 at 2 p.m. According to the board’s website, Aqua New York is proposing to erect a 158.66’ high gallon water tank on the northwest corner of DeMott Avenue and the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway.
Additionally, Aqua is also asking for a special exception permit to construct a chemical/electrical building and a water well building also at the corner of DeMott Avenue and the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway.
A hearing for this project was scheduled for Wednesday, June 29, at 2 p.m. At press time residents were planning on attending the hearing to request an adjournment.
Jeanine Boiko, a resident who lives near the Aqua New York site, told The Citizen that residents were feeling put upon by all the proposed developments in Wantagh.
“Between cell towers, proposed strip club and now a new proposed 150 foot water tower courtesy of Aqua New York – again in the middle of a residential area – many of us are finding it hard trying to remember why we moved to Wantagh. It’s like there is a giant bulls-eye on this community all of a sudden. What’s next? An airport landing strip? A nuclear plant?”
Ms. Boiko said that residents are being urged to register opposition to these projects by contacting the board either by attending these hearings or going to the Town of Hempstead web site at www.tohli/content/bz/formba/html or by mail to David Weiss, Chairman; Board of Appeals, One Washington Street, Hempstead, 11550
