Can YOU give blood this week?
The New York Blood Center has declared a blood emergency as a result of snows in our area. Approximately 8,000 units of blood have been lost in the past 6 weeks, over 1,600 units a day due to cancellations of appointments due to snow. Several types of blood, including O negative, are at less than two days supply for our area’s 200 hospitals.
To schedule an appointment at a location most convenient to you, you can call 1-800-933-2566. Here are some convenient blood drive locations to consider:
• Meadow Elementary School, February 7, 1:15- 7:15 p.m. in the gym, 880 Jackson Street, Baldwin.
• Hofstra University, February 8, 8:30 a.m.- 9 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room, North Campus Student Center. Hempstead Turnpike, Hempstead.
• Seaford Community Blood Drive, February 5, 8 a.m-3:30 p.m. at Seaford High School, 1575 Seamans Neck Road, Seaford.
• Temple B’nai Torah, February 6, 8:45 a.m.-2:45 p.m. 2900 Jerusalem Avenue, Wantagh.
• Knights of Columbus Council 3476, February 7, 2:45-8:45 p.m. 2183 Jackson Avenue, Seaford.
And please help talk up this need with your friends and relatives. It is an absolute miracle that we human beings can share blood with each other to save each other’s lives. It proves that we are all truly connected.
