William Hayes
William T. Hayes, 85, formerly of Merrick, died on July 28 in Uniondale. He was also a former resident of The Meadows at Mitchel Field Senior Living Community.
Mr. Hayes was an avid fan of the New York Islanders, attending nearly every game for 23 years and often following the team on the road. He was inducted into the Islanders’ Hall of Fame and had the honor of dropping a puck on center ice.
Mr. Hayes was the son of the late William and Gertrude, brother of Edward (Dora). He was the uncle of Doris Quintilian (Denis), Edward Jr. (Gisela), Susan Johnson (Walter), Nancy Scott (Bruce) and Barbara Hayes. He was a great-uncle to Denis and Mary Quintilian, Jessica and Devin Hayes and Kayleigh Hayes. He is also survived by his close friend Frances T. Miller and her husband Sam.
Mr. Hayes was retired from Bankers Trust NYC where he was a security officer. He was an Army veteran having served in the European Theater from 1943 to 1946. Visitors were received by the family at N.F. Walker Funeral Home, and a mass was held at Curé of Ars Parish. Burial was at Calverton National Cemetery.
